About the event

With multi-agency incentives for women working in TV and Film there has never been a better time to develop films and TV drama for and about women.

Take this six-week course to explore your feature film ideas. Responding to recent Screen Ireland and BAI initiatives to encourage female writers (and directors) to tell female centered stories this course will look at writing stories for and about women.

The course will explore the fundamental craft of writing feature film concentrating on engaging audience emotional response. I will outline the elements to consider to set your project apart, help find your voice as a screenwriter and tap into the passion you need to get your story on the page and onto the screen.

Throughout this course, in a supportive and safe environment, you will have ongoing opportunity to pitch your idea to the class for feedback.

Eilish will also provide feedback on your idea, characters and story structure via email.

In six, three-hour sessions Eilish will look at elements common to successful feature film stories:

• Cinematic scale.

• The arc of transformation.

• Audience engagement.

• Exploration of theme.

• Pace, tone and staying true to genre.

• Local stories that transcend the local market.

She will also provide you with the tools to write a persuasive one-page pitch.

Teri Donaghy says

“I loved the Screen Writing course I did with Eilish Kent before Christmas. I learned so much about the industry, how to differentiate between a good script and a great script, tips and tricks etc. Eilish also facilitated group discussion, dissemination of participants knowledge and experience and collaboration. I would highly recommend attending Eilish's course.”

Libby McCormack says :

"I took Eilish’s feature writing course (2016) and, shortly after, I returned for her TV drama course (2017). Elish has a forensic knowledge and understanding of how drama for TV and Film works and she has a remarkable ability to help distill your idea down to its dramatic essence. By deconstructing some top-notch films and tv series, she reveals the mechanics of successful drama-writing so that you can begin to develop your idea along these lines. She is bang up-to-date with trends in both TV and film and will help you to push your idea towards maximum commercial viability. She is a positive, encouraging and no-nonsense teacher and, if you have an idea you want to develop, I highly recommend taking one of her courses."
