I love the mix of working with others on their stories, initiating my own projects, and teaching, where I always learn something new.
I have just produced the feature documentary UNDER THE CLOCK, supported by the IFB and RTÉ, which has just finished its run in the Movies@ chain and is going to festivals in the UK.
As a consultant I help programme makers and writers clarify their ideas. I focus on concept generation, format and story structure in comedy, drama, lifestyle series, scripted reality and factual programming including CONNECTED, JUNIOR VETS and FADE ST. I have worked on true life stories, genre pieces and all formats from short films to feature films; online, event TV and renewable series.
On an on-going basis I assess Film Proposals for the Arts Council, these projects are feature documentaries and experimental films.
For many years I worked in RTÉ commissioning, developing and managing numerous TV Drama and Comedy series onto screen, many with first time writers including the iconic PATHS TO FREEDOM, RAW, LOVE IS THE DRUG, ANYTIME NOW, Emmy winner NO TEARS and FOREIGN EXCHANGE.
I also pre-bought feature films including Oscar winning ONCE, ADAM & PAUL and WHAT RICHARD DID. I script edited the movie SPIN THE BOTTLE, and I commissioned well over 100 short films, live-action and animation.
In 2007 I originated and designed the unique initiative Storyland to commission online series. StoryLand has proven to be a successful way to develop audience and break new talent. While I was at the helm 25 new series made it to audience. The most successful, THE HARDY BUCKS, grew to have seven million hits online. From that I commissioned three TV series of THE HARDY BUCKS and as a freelance script edited their feature film HARDY BUCKS THE MOVIE, a success at Irish box-office.
In BBC I developed A RAP AT THE DOOR and RTS winner THE MEZONE, among other projects.
I assessed projects for the Irish Film Board Development and Production funds and read for many independent production companies in London, including Working Title and Ken Loach.
I have sat on many awarding panels for funding bodies, including the International Emmys. I deliver bespoke workshops and training for clients in Ireland and the UK. For many years I was a decision maker at EAVE.
